Life Story

I grew up in a small town in Louisiana, one of those places where you know everyone and everyone knows you. I was surrounded by lots of family and lots of good friends. My father had some major health problems, so we were not in church regularly, but my parents lived a devoted Christian life at home. That made a big impression on me as a child, and God saved me at an early age.

When I was old enough to drive, I started attending church regularly and became involved in the youth group. I was blessed to have some great role models during that time and started to take my faith more seriously and also met my wife, Nicki.

I moved away to college and had my life planned out. I was going to finish my double degree, go to medical school, become a doctor and save lives. During my final year of college, though, God used a combination of things to show me that my plan was not the same as His plan. I didn’t know what His plan was, but He put a stop to mine. I drifted for a few years, not really seeking His will. It wasn’t until my wife and I were expecting our first child that God woke me up and got me back on track.

We moved back to our home town where I had got a job in IT, and almost immediately, I started leading the same student ministry where my wife and I met 12 years earlier. There, I realized that there is a severe lack of discipleship in most churches, and God burdened me in this area for the students I was leading. This led me to discover The Village. I was impressed by the focus on discipleship and the amount of quality resources that the church gave away online. Through a very unplanned and unexpected turn of events, God then orchestrated our move to Texas to work IT here at The Village.
